SMILE group mission statement and where it is found in the bible.

A purpose driven youth ministry is built around the five purposes found in two popular passages, the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.

Great Commandment: "Jesus replied: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatet commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbour a yourelf.' All the Law and Prophets hang on these two commandment" (Matt. 22:37-40)

Great Commission: "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age" (Matt. 28:9-20)

The five purposes are found in these two passages:

1. WORSHIP: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart"

2. MINISTRY: "Love your neighbour as yourself"

3. EVANGELISM: "Go and make disciples"

4. FELLOWSHIP: "Baptizing them"

5. DISCIPLESHIP: "Teaching them to obey"

These are the five New Testament purposes that drive our youth ministry. To make it easier to remember and more 'youth-friendly' we decided to change the words.

WORSHIP = MAGNIFY

MINISTRY = SERVE

EVANGELISM = INVITE

FELLOWSHIP = ENJOY

DISCIPLESHIP = LIVE

We then used the first letter from each of our new words to come up with one single word, hense SMILE was born!

OUR MISSION STATEMENT IS:

SMILE exists to INVITE non believing youth to ENJOY getting to know us, to help each other LIVE better lives, to SERVE others and to MAGNIFY God.
