Our mission

Since the mid nineteen seventies the church meeting in Oxford Street Loughborough has provided full support for Ashon Mtengezo.

Ashon intended studying to be a priest. As he walked down the street to sign up for that he saw a leaflet on the floor and picked it up. The leaflet had been discarded by some one who obviously did not want to know about the church of Christ. But as Ashon read it he realised what was written was the truth according to God’s Word.

He asked around and found the missionary who was responsible for distributing the leaflets in the first place. On finding him he asked to be baptised and for teaching materials. Having been baptised Ashon took leaflets with him and went to see his wife in hospital who had had a baby. He gave a leaflet to everyone in the hospital and so began his mission to spread the gospel.

On recommendation to Albert Winstanley who worked with the church in Loughborough at the time, the church began supporting Ashon and continues to do so.

Mark Hill visited Kalambo, Malawi for the month of April 2006 to merely see how Ashon was doing. The people of the village had absolutely nothing. If they had shoes at all they were worn out, their clothes were rags. They lived in homes fashioned out of mud with no furniture except maybe for a chair.

The Gateway Club held at Glebe House, Forest Road, Loughborough, is a social club for people with learning difficulties. Many of out members are involved as volunteers with this club. It has been in existence for over forty years and consists of about thirty members and fifteen helpers. Regular meetings are held on the first and third Friday of each month at Glebe House.

It would seem that though it looked a monumental task to raise money to build a clinic, the hard job is now the money has been raised. We are striving to move this project along but communication is our greatest challenge. We are cautiously making progress in getting plans and quotes for the actual build. Along with this though we need to ensure every thing is in place for the running of the clinic and provision of medicines.
